We’ve curated the most common anti-aging skincare questions you wanted answered!

These 20 questions range from anti-aging skincare tips to correcting sunspots and types of wrinkle creams to use, just to whet your palette.

Let’s dive in!

Q1: When should I start worrying about fine lines and wrinkles?

As the old adage goes, “it’s better to be proactive, than reactive.”

The earlier you start taking care of your skin, and understanding exactly what the means, the longer you’ll likely prolong seeing those pesky lines and wrinkles appear in the mirror.

Fine lines and wrinkles occur at the dermal layer as shown below. Red light therapy is one type of treatment that can help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Q2: When should I start using a microcurrent device?

You can start using the NuFACE microcurrent device as early as age 18.

The NuFACE Trinity multi-solution device is FDA-cleared and clinically-tested for improved facial contour, skin tone, and wrinkle reduction to give you a more radiant, younger-looking appearance.

Q3: How much sunscreen should I be using and what is the right level of SPF?

To achieve the Sun Protection Factor (or SPF, which protects against the sun’s UVB radiation) reflected on a bottle of sunscreen, you should use approximately two milligrams of sunscreen per square centimeter of skin. Equivalent of a shot glass (two tablespoons) of sunscreen to the exposed areas of the face and body – a nickel-sized dollop to the face alone.

One helpful anti-aging tip you may not know is that the SPF number actually means that it would take X times longer to burn, than if you weren’t wearing any sunscreen at all. SPF really only lasts 2 hours, so sunscreen should be re-applied to the face and body frequently for all-day protection.

Q4: What’s the deal with Retinol?

Retinol, like many other types of anti-aging skincare, speeds up skin’s exfoliation, it just brings to the surface what would have naturally surfaced anyway one or two weeks later.
So, if a breakout is brewing underneath the surface of your skin, retinol will likely bring it to the surface much sooner. It may seem like retinol is causing it but it is purging the bad stuff. Retinol is known to both effectively treat acne and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Q5: Should I consider injections and are they safe?

Injections are a personal decision and should be made with careful consideration to your lifestyle, age, and budget. It is generally considered a safe treatment when administered by a licensed professional. Different type of injectables and fillers can help with skin problems such as; replacing lost facial fat, psoriasis, adding volume to the skin and reducing acne scar pockmarks.

Q6: How can I treat the skin on my neck and décolletage?

Good news! You don’t necessarily need to spend extra money on separate anti-aging products just for this area.

Instead, by extending the skincare routine you use for your face including your cleanser, toner, exfoliator, moisturizer, etc. down to your neck and chest, you can help address many types of skin concerns that may be appearing on these areas. Yet, if you do have specific concerns about these area, prescription topicals from your dermatologist may help treat these concerns.

Anti-aging tip: When applying sunscreen, don’t forget to apply to your neck and décolletage to prevent wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation and other types of sun damage.

Q7: What can I do about my freckles, sun spots and hyper-pigmentation?

To help get rid of discoloration, these four active ingredients are recommended by most dermatologists and aestheticians:

  • Great sunscreen of minimum SPF 30
  • Gentle exfoliating acid
  • Natural skin lightener
  • Non-irritating retinol

Vitamin C acts as a melanin disruptor to improve skin color and both retinol (vitamin A) and exfoliating acids encourage skin cell turnover from deep within the skin to bring new, evenly pigmented cells to the surface.

Q8: I’m noticing serious sagging and even jowls – is there anything that will help?

We have more than 50 muscles in the face. So, similar to a work out for your body, certain exercises can help with sagging jowls as well.

The key to preventing future sagging and to help tighten your jowls, is actually motion! Consistent chewing, smiling, moving of your lips, cheek muscles and jaw, will all help and won’t cost you a thing! Some wrinkle creams state they can help with sagging jowls but it’s best to do these basic exercises.

Try these fun facercises which are designed to target muscle areas around your mouth, jaw line, lips, cheeks and your neck. See how many you can do, without laughing at yourself!

Q9: Help me make sense of the hundreds of wrinkle creams – which should I consider?

With a saturated market, we understand that it might be hard to choose which wrinkle cream will be the best for you.

Wrinkle creams usually depend on the ingredients they are made with and how long they will be used. Look for wrinkle creams with vitamin C, hydroxy acids, peptides, tea and grape seed extracts, which all help the appearance of wrinkles.

Q10: What can I do about my dark circles around my eyes?

Dark circles can be caused by different things. Most common treatments include retinol, vitamin c, kojic acid and sunscreen.

And when all else fails, a great concealer can work wonders!

Q11: I do not feel anything when I’m using my device. Is that normal?

Yes. If you are using your NuFACE microcurrent device properly, with a mask-like layer of NuFACE Gel Primer covering your skin, you should feel little-to-no sensation. The NuFACE devices do not vibrate nor do they contract the muscles; the microcurrent gently stimulates the face with the low-level electrical current which actually can go unnoticed – at least until you see your results!

Q12: Do I have to do the full treatment or can I use the device on one area for a shorter amount of time?

For optimum results, the full NuFACE treatment is recommend. However, you will still experience results by treating specific areas of concern. The results are totally up to you.

Q13: Do I have to use my NuFACE device every day? What happens if I stop using it for a few days?

NuFACE devices are safe and gentle enough for everyday use, however it is recommended to use NuFACE devices only once in a 24-hour period, for 5-20 minutes per treatment.

For the first 60 days it is recommended to use your device NuFACE 5 times per week; after 60 days or after desired results are met, you should use your device 2-3 times per week to maintain your results and prevent future issues.

Q14: What are the differences between the Trinity and mini devices?

Both the NuFACE Trinity and NuFACE mini deliver a low-level electrical current (known as microcurrent) to stimulate the skin and improve its appearance.

The NuFACE Trinity is designed with interchangeable treatment attachments that offer multiple anti-aging solutions with the ease and convenience of just one device. NuFACE mini is a microcurrent-only device that is petite and portable but still offers the same power as the NuFACE Trinity.

Q15: Can I use the device on my neck?

The NuFACE Trinity Facial trainer is FDA-cleared for the face only.

Q16: Can I use a NuFACE device if I recently had Botox/fillers?

It is recommended to consult with your doctor before using the NuFACE device after Botox or other fillers.

Q17: What alternatives can I use in place of the NuFACE Gel Primer if my skin is sensitive?

It is recommended to use the NuFACE Gel Primer because it was specifically designed to conduct the microcurrent with the NuFACE Trinity Facial Trainer and NuFACE mini devices. Without the Gel Primer, the current is not penetrating to the right layer of the skin to be productive. Additionally, we cannot guarantee that you will get the same results if using a different gel.

Q18: How do I use the NuFACE anti-aging serums?

You can use them individually or layered under your gel primer before a NuFACE treatment Or you can use them underneath your favorite moisturizer after a NuFACE treatment.

When layering, the proper order of use is (1) Nourisher, (2)  Smoother, (3) Lifter, then (4) Collagen Booster just around the eyes.

Q19: Should I apply my serums before or after my treatment with my NuFACE Trinity or mini?

Whichever way you prefer! Apply your NuFACE anti-aging serums before the Gel Primer or after your NuFACE treatment for hydrated, healthy skin. Try it out both ways and see which works best for you.

Q20: What’s the difference between the Gel Primer and the Gold Gel Primer?

NuFACE Gel Primer is paraben-free, dye-free, salt-free, fragrance-free and lightweight, so it is easy to remove.

NuFACE 24K Gold Gel Primers come in 2 formulas to address to address both skin firmness and brightness. Both formulas are infused with the anti-aging benefits of hyaluronic acid, algae, and peptides. Many love these Gel Primers because they offers a built-in brush for ease of application and the lightweight formula can be left on after your treatment for ongoing anti-aging benefits.
